I’d heard so much about Bollywood tours, I had to see one.

Memorable
The show was fun overall. Ritesh Deshmukh is cool Mumbaikar, Preity Zinta is a cutie, le Dixit has the magic thumka, Abhishek and Ash are a beautiful couple. The cherry was of course, the Big B. He sang a lot, danced a bit, and (my favorite part) recited snippets from Kabhi kabhi, Agneepath and Deewar, and Harivansh Rai Bachan’s poetry.

Other highlights - ‘dola re dola’ with Dixit and Rai,  Bachan junior’s ‘ek mein aur ek tu hai’, ‘kajarare’.

Unforgettable
The show began 2 hours late. When it did start there was no apology or acknowledgement of tardiness, just a breezy “hi, we’re here and we’re the stars, so aren’t you ecstatic to see us?”. I did consider throwing eggs (or Luna bars which my friend had) at the stage to protest, but settled for a resolution to not attend a bollywood event again. I’ll watch the dances in the theatre where the show starts (what a novel concept!) ON TIME.

WTF #1 -

  • Yesterday: 7 bombs explode Bangalore
  • Today: 14 bombs set off in Ahmedabad

WTF #2 -
A total of 21 bombs, some in densely populated areas, and only 4 dead??? Sorry, I know how this sounds and I’m happy the casualties are low. That doesn’t stop me WTF-ing about the numbers.

Theories? #1 - The bombers are incompetent. #2 - These bombs weren’t meant to kill, they were meant to send a message. But from whom? And where’s said message?

What’s the plan now? Low intensity blasts across India so the populace is reduced to a terrified jelly? Not sure that’s going to happen, it was business as usual in Bangalore after the blasts yesterday.

So we wait for…we don’t even know (enlightenment? instruction? absolution?).

Tis the time to buzz the fuzz, shed the fur. I’m talking about le wax, le tweeze, le shave. It’s a PAIN. I generally avoid beauty regimens, but my hirsute legs demand attention. And I repeat, it’s a PAIN.

So when my cousin visited us and talked about laser hair removal, I was interested. Interested enough to go to the local beauty parlour and ask the gum-chewing teen how much it cost. Gulp. North of $5000. The laser works well on light skins, not dark. Caucasian skin, not Indian. The darker your skin and hair the more specialized (read expensive) the treatment. Not only that, you’re liable to smell the burning of your flesh if it’s done wrong.

However, my cuz achieved the smoothness, so I was intimidated, but intrigued. More research, and the results:

  • find a good doctor (no, don’t go to a beauty salon that has a cardboard sign saying ‘Laser Hair Removal’)
  • make sure said doctor has the right laser for your skin type. Dark skins require a long-pulse laser and the only one that’s FDA approved is “Cool Glide”.
  • get past the colossal charges and fixate on your razor-free life

The advantages are razor-freedom, no ingrown hairs or gaping pores. The disadvantages are a big hole in your pocket and VERY expensive legs :).

Hmmm…for now I’ll take the cheap n’ easy, stick with the razor and complain through the summer.

I had the day off. I needed to have a surgery with gen anesthesia.

As I blabbered my way out of oblivion, I think I told the nurse I’d buy her a small car and the doc could shrink her to fit in it :). She was stout, so Sunil was appalled at my rudeness until I clarified by slurring “a leetle toy car” and “like in Honey I Shrunk the Kids”. Silly, not rude. There’s more that I said, but… ** blush **

I just spent a sleepy afternoon with Nick Bantock, thanks to Gypsy. Why did I say clarity? I dunno….I just feel relaxedly transparent.
